THOPPUKARNAM: DIFFRENT PERSPETIVES FROM DIFFERENT GURUS.

 THOPUKARNAM  is an ancient practice performed as beginning of yoga and other spiritual practices. Ganapathy is also the deity which is paid salutation before beginning of any work to remove obstacles and increase our inteligence.So Thoppukarnam is performed infront of Ganapathy deity usually. But over the years the practice has dilluted and distorted . So this is an effort to document the prominent and authentic variations and perspectives done under different teachers.


1. Thopukarnam done in varmakalai: An martial art variety done in Tamil Nadu region vis-a-vis Kalari in kerala. Here taught Gopalakrishnan ashan. Can be regarded as least dilluted.

Thoppukarnam: Varmakalai by S. Goplakrishnan ashan.


Points;

(1) First Right leg over Left leg hands also similarily crossed holding the ears(Put Right hand over Left hand in holding ears)

(2) Take in breath slowly and gradually.

(3) Squat down with exhaling breath.

(4) Keep the spine straight(as much a possible)

(5) Do 21 times/

(6) Repeat with Left leg over Right and hands also similarily crossed holding the ears.

(7) Hit the side of the head with closed fist a few times.

Change Points:
(1) Inhale while going down  and exhale while coming up.
